In a few weeks I will be embarking on a canoe trip from the northern end of Lake Winnipeg to the shores of the Hudson's Bay along one of Canada's historical Canadian River systems; the Hayes River.  We will be travelling 600km through unspoiled wilderness of the northern boreal forest, remote stretches of white-water, large lake systems, deep valleys, sacred places of worship, pictograph sites and tidal flats.  Heading out into the Canadian wilderness for a 25 day paddle along the historic Hayes river from Norway House to York Factory (Hudson Bay). This is an opportunity to paddle a chronicled historic river that has been left pristine and not been touched with dams or development.

Here is a collection of some outdoor adventures that I have been on in the last little while.  If you would like to see more, be sure to check out carolinewintoniw.exposure.co to see the full stories.

Sibiling Portraits | Kings Park Winnipeg http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2015/10/knipkids Photographing children is always a fun time!  I loved spending the morning with these kids at King's Park.  We had lots of fun running around, going for rides in their lovely red wagon, climbing trees and having a little picnic.  It was a fast paced morning with the twins, but their older brothers sure knew how to make them smile! Thank you for letting me join in some family fun.  Here is a few photos from that morning.

Wedding || Clare + Kathleen http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2015/8/wedding-clare-kathleen A few weeks ago I was able to photograph Clare and Kathleen's beautiful summer wedding.  We began the day with a first look and photos in Kathleen's parent's backyard and ended the day escaping away from the reception for a few moments to take some sunset photos in the same place. It was a beautiful location to start and end the day.   We spent the afternoon exploring the grounds and taking photos at Lower Fort Gary and then headed to the ceremony which was in the church where Kathleen grew up.  Clare and Kathleen had a backyard reception with great food, friends, family (the most out of town guests I've seen at a wedding), music, beautiful lighting by Lights Unlimited, and lots of dancing (they even had a square dance)! Clare and Kathleen are two amazing women and I was honoured that I was able to share and capture their special day with them. Here are a few photos from that day.

Kaitlyn + Chris || Engaged http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2015/7/kaitlyn-chris-engaged I first met Kaitlyn and Chris at Kaitlyn's sisters wedding last fall.  I was so excited when they called and asked me to photograph their wedding!  The two of them had gone on their first date to The Forks for mini donuts.  This is where we met for their engagement session, and yes, mini donuts were a part of the photo shoot!  We had a beautiful warm and sunny day, and the two of them had lots of smiles and love between them.   I am so excited to capture their wedding this November!

The Church in the Middle of the Road. http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2015/3/the-church-in-the-middle-of-the-road This winter my good friend Darin proposed.  Kristina (another good friend) and I were honored to be able to help with the set up of the day.  The four of us met in the morning for a delicious brunch and then went our separate ways.  Shortly after we "departed" Darin called us and we went to pick him up.  We loaded our car with candles, glass jars, hot chocolate and then headed to drop a letter off for Kaily.    The plan was that Kaily would go into work that evening (Darin had prearranged to have her shift covered without her knowing). When Kaily would arrive at work her manager would hand her the letter from Darin, which included instruction on where to find him.   After dropping off the letter we drove to the church in the middle of the road and began to fill it with the warm glow of candles.  The night fell upon us, and we left Darin stranded in the middle of the road waiting for Kaily.  Shortly after we received a call that they were getting MARRIED!  I am so excited for these two to continue their life together and Kristina and I are looking forward to capturing their special day!

The following pictures were taken with HP5 film pushed to 800.  The film was developed by hand with love.

Jeremy & Alyssa | Engaged http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2015/1/jeremy-alyssa-engaged I was very excited to be able to photograph Jeremy and Alyssa's engagement session.  I joined Alyssa and Jeremy for a beautiful afternoon at The Forks.  We wandered around taking some photographs indoors and then ventured out to the beautiful winter day and enjoyed a skate on the river trail.  We ended our day by taking some photos on the Esplanade Riel (which was the bridge that the two of them got engaged on) and then warming up to a cup of hot chocolate.  Here are some photographs from that day.

Where the Light Lands http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2015/1/where-the-light-lands This past fall I was part of a show at ViewPoint Gallery in Winnipeg, Manitoba with photographer Daniel Menheer, titled Where the Light Lands...Exploring Intimate Landscapes.  It was really exciting to share this collection of photographs with others in the city. The show became a part of FLASH Photographic Festival in Winnipeg, and one of my images was shown at a showcase at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

I still have a few prints available from this collection for sale, if you would like to bring one of these images home, please contact me! Here are a few images, to see more check out the gallery on my website Where the Light Lands.

Where the Light Lands is a collection of images shown at ViewPoint Gallery - Fall 2014, as part of an exhibit with Photographer Daniel Menheer.

“Where the Light Lands...Exploring Intimate Landscapes”

Drawn to the nuances of the natural world, Wintoniw and Menheer have spent most of their time in the field creating intimate images of a world that is both fragile and harsh, often abused and taken for granted. The connection they have with nature is one that is not often seen, and has made for some truly memorable images of the places they love. Come and get lost in the images; to see the beauty in things not often seen and to enjoy discovering where the light lands.

Family Session || The Rings http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2014/11/family-session-the-rings I was able to join the Ring family again this year from some photos in Assiniboine Forest! Two years ago we had come to the forest to take some pictures and it is so fun to see how much the girls have grown!  You can check out the blog post from that day here.  It was one of the last warm days we had this fall and we had a great time exploring the forest and taking some photos.   Their four daughters are filled with so much fun and energy and they always know how to make me laugh! Here are some pictures from our time together.

Thank-you for the wonderful day and I can't wait to meet baby Robins!

Wedding || Theo + Carlie http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2014/11/wedding-theo-carlie This fall I was honored to photograph Theo and Carlie's Wedding.  If you happened to see my blog post from their engagement session I mentioned that the first time I met Theo was around a campfire on Thanksgiving weekend 2009.  We were going around the fire and sharing something that we were most thankful for that year. Theo was most thankful for meeting his girlfriend Carlie!  And now 5 years later I was able to photograph their wedding!

It was a beautiful fall day.  We took some photos at Aspire Studios in Winnipeg, a few photos in Starbuck and then headed to Bridges for the ceremony and reception!

Congratulations Theo and Carlie! And thank-you for having me capture your special day!

Family Photo Session || The Stepanuik Family http://www.carolinewintoniw.ca/blog/2014/10/family-photo-session-the-stepanuik-family I must admit that I am a little behind in my blogging. I joined the Stepanuik Family for a photo session at the beginning of September!  Last year I was able to join this great family while they were camping at Otter Falls (check out some of the photos from that session here) and this year we decided check out Assiniboine Park!  Jen's mom joined us for the photo session and it was a great morning, lots of laughs and lots of running around and exploring the park.  Here are a few photos from our session.

We were able to stop along the way at a few of their favorite spots, and ended at the cabin with a pontoon boat ride right before the rain began.  The day was filled with many laughs, ticks, mosquitoes, and overall LOTS of fun!  Thank-you Gerylo family for an amazing day and great hospitality.
